Versions and exports
Approved versions
Section titled “Approved versions”On the Versions tab, create a new approved version. It freezes the fields you’ve approved. Anything not approved is left out and listed as a warning.
A version is complete when every required field is approved and every image has alt text (or is marked decorative). Otherwise it’s incomplete, with its warnings shown. A complete version closes the request to further client changes; you can reopen it to ask for specific changes. Versions never change: the next one gets a new number.
Exports
Section titled “Exports”Export a version as a ZIP package: structured content (content.json), Markdown, the files with safe names, and a manifest. Exports can be downloaded for 30 days and can be made again from the version at any time.
GitHub
Section titled “GitHub”Connect GitHub under Settings, Integrations, then link a repository to the project. Sending a version opens a pull request; it never pushes to the default branch directly, and never force-pushes. Only approved export packages are sent, never drafts, rejected content or review notes.
GitLab
Section titled “GitLab”Connect GitLab under Settings, Integrations. You sign in on GitLab.com and approve access. Then link an existing GitLab project to the project in Handoff. Send a version from its page and Handoff opens a merge request. It never pushes to the default branch directly, and never force-pushes. Only approved export packages are sent.
If GitLab access is withdrawn, the next send fails and asks you to reconnect GitLab under Settings, Integrations.
Linear and GitHub Projects
Section titled “Linear and GitHub Projects”You can also have Handoff create one handoff issue for each version, so your developers see it where they plan their work.
- Linear: connect Linear under Settings, Integrations, then link a team under Planning on the project.
- GitHub Projects: connect GitHub under Settings, Integrations, then link an organisation project under Planning on the project.
The issue is created automatically for each complete version. It holds the version number, the project name, whether the version is complete, any warnings and links back to Handoff. It never holds client content. If creating the issue fails, use Retry on the version. Retrying never creates a second issue for the same version.
If Linear access is withdrawn, the connection is marked as revoked and you will need to reconnect it.
